He Loves Us

Today's Station Church is the church of St. Augustine, where Augustine's mother, St. Monica, is buried (in the green marble tomb under the side altar pictured below). For years Monica prayed fervently for the conversion of her wayward son, and God answered her prayers with a flourish! St. Augustine became one of the greatest theologians and saints the Church has ever known.

Paired with today's Gospel, on the call of the tax collector (who only Matthew, in his own Gospel, humbly identifies as himself), we receive two strong reassurances that God can not only wipe away our sins, but give us the grace to become great saints when we open our hearts to receive His forgiveness and move forward in confidence.

As David Crowder*Band puts it, "I don't have time to maintain these regrets, when I think about the way that He loves us."
